World Habitat Day – October 5th!
“The United Nations has designated the first Monday of October every year as World Habitat Day. The idea is to reflect on the state of our towns and cities and the basic right of all to adequate shelter. It is also intended to remind the world of its collective responsibility for the future of the human habitat.” This years theme is ‘Planning our Urban Future.’
This year, in order to spread the word about World Habitat Day, HFH-International has started a photo petition that will be delivered to the White House on WHD! The goal is to remind President Obama that ‘It all Starts at Home.’ You can join the petition by submitting your own photo… just follow these simple directions:
- Create a sign that says “It all Starts at Home.” Get creative!
- Take a photo of yourself with the sign.
- Add your photo to Habitat’s Flickr group or e-mail your photo to WorldHabitatDay@habitat.org, and we will post it for you.
**HFHI’s minimum goal is to collect 500 photos from around the world**
Submit your photo by Friday, September 25, 2009!

Larry Wooten, a crew leader with HFH-MC tells us why he volunteers!
“I’ve been given to all my life, it’s time to give back to people…I just like to give back.”
Tell us why YOU volunteer…
We’d love to hear your stories and experiences! Email habititus@habitat-mc.org and tell us why you give back…
